Bryan and I were guests on the Nerdist Writer’s Panel podcast with Ben Blacker. We talked about the creation of the show, the move to digital, and even about the Movie That Shall Not Be Named. Ben does a great job with the podcast and has had some big names on in the past, like Matthew Weiner, Damon Lindelof, and Vince Gilligan, so I was honored to be one of his guests!

I think this is the best interview ever done with Mike and Bryan and I would highly recommend listening to it.

This is basically the first time ever Mike and Bryan candidly talk about the movie which Bryan calls a negative experience and says they were technically involved in, but their involvement had no tangible effect.

A random note of new information was that it was Aaron Ehasz’s idea to make Zuko “get worse before he got better” (Zuko’s Book 2 story arc).

They also talk about the move to digital, most notably saying that it wasn’t the Spanish leak that caused Nick to premiere Book 3 only a week after announcing it, it was a factor that they can’t really discuss. But they do say that if Nick didn’t air Book 3 right then, they would have to have waited until next year to air it. Bryan also says he was told initially the Spanish leak was an accident on the Mexican Nick affiliate, but then corrected that it was stolen from their servers. This isn’t true and I hope Bryan can know that what he was told the first time is true (if you googled “Book 2 Episode 3 NickMundo” during the time when the leak was up, it linked to the Book 3 episodes, so definitely not a server hack).

Mike and Bryan also say that the dark content of Book 3 was definitely not the reason for the digital switch and that the people making that decision probably hadn’t even seen “Long Live the Queen”.

Korra is the 10th highest trending show on Google for the month of July.

Korra is the 10th highest trending show on Google for the month of July.

Eric Thurm of the AVClub apparently has a review copy of the finale and says it “might be the best thing I’ll watch all year.” (Tweet 1, Tweet 2)

The source wasn't available but I once read that writing book 4 made people cry. Is this true? Because if other people cried, I know the fandom will.

Hmm.. I hadn’t heard about that.

But it’s Legend of Korra, so of course there are some emotional parts to it. I think I can think of some scenes that might have caused some tears to be shed, though…

Is there a title for book four yet...? It just feels weird that book 3 is ending in less than a week and we know absolutely NOTHING about book 4...

wruzicka-reblogs:

How much did you know about Book 2 when Book 1 ended? Or how much of Book 3 did you know when Book 2 ended?

Doesn’t seem weird to me. Seems to be business as usual.

To answer your question honestly, though, I don’t know what its called. I didn’t know what book 3 was going to be called until they officially announced it. I remember thinking “Metal” seemed possible, what with the heavy focus on Beifongs. But Change makes more sense.

Seems like names of Books are certainly overrated in importance and they didn’t even know the name of Book 3 during storyboarding

I have trouble picking favorites… but I really liked what I did on episode 13. 9_9

If I were to pick an episode I didn’t work on…? 12.

Seriously I REALLY like these next two episodes coming up.
